Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
